Hopefully this won't occur very often, but when it does occur, it's important to note the exact steps you performed leading up to the crash. Second, there are a set of files that contain useful troubleshooting information. Collecting these files will greatly assist in the bug-hunting process.<html:p class="paragraph"/>
First, find the "system.log" file:
<html:ol>
<html:li>After the error occurs, start the "Console" application. You can find this in Applications -> Utilities.</html:li>
<html:li>When the Console application starts, there should be a list of files on the left hand side of the window that opens.</html:li>
<html:li>Select "system.log" from the list of files. The display should change slightly to show the contents of this log file.</html:li>
<html:li>Save a copy by choosing "Save a Copy as..." from the "File" menu.</html:li>
<html:li>When the save as window opens, browse to your dropbox shared folder and save the file. You can give it a different name, if you'd like.</html:li>
<html:li>Quit the console application.</html:li>
</html:ol>Second, I'd like to get a copy of the crash report:
<html:ol>
<html:li>From the "Finder" perform the following steps to locate the file:</html:li>
<html:li>Choose the Go -> Home menu item</html:li>
<html:li>Open the Library folder, then Logs, then DiagnosticReports.</html:li>
<html:li>Find the file that looks something like this: Caster_2010-05-08-124906_your_computer_name.crash</html:li>
